Today there is an uncountable types of skateboards available in the market. But before some years, it was just flat wood that came with four metal wheels.
Later on, the market grows when people started showing more interest in skateboarding, which led to the development of so many styles of skateboard decks.
Each deck was designed to fulfill the demands of different riding styles and tricks like Hippie Jump, Biebelheimer, Rail Stand, Fakie Frontside 180, Nollie Shove It, Fakie Casper Flop, and so many other nameless tricks.
The skateboard deck became narrower and wider, shorter and longer, lower and taller in a few decades. According to Matt Berger, the creator of ska8Makers and the writer of “THE HANDMADE SKATEBOARD.”
According to shape and size, it is classified into two main types, i.e., longboard skateboard and shortboard skateboard. After a few more discussions we’ll explain a few other types of skateboards below.
Types Of Skateboards
Longboard has bigger boards. Usually, they are longer and wider in shape and have a soft wheel which helps the skater easier in balancing. So due to its balanced structure, this board is the best fit for new riders.
A longboard is also an option for cruising and downhill skating. It provides more reliability to those unfamiliar with boarding ever before. you can also participate and be a part of the longboard dancing program. Tricks and stunts can also be performed with this board.

For cruising and skating purposes, it’s best to go with this option. However, it is much more comfortable for skating because of its wider deck. This board also comes in beautiful eye-catching prints and designs.
Downhill is also known as speedboarding. This is because a skater can easily achieve high speed. But remind that skating on these boards demand a lot of practice and perfection.

How to Teach a Kid to Skateboard
Be patient if you want to teach skateboarding to your baby. Because it takes your time and needs you to care to monitor your toddler slowly. Like me, many of us want to do skateboarding with our children in parks and backyards.
Giving the training of skateboarding to your below five-year baby is quiet, not easy. It is very difficult for a child to establish a body while riding. Maybe you even notice that a young beginner can make his first ride successful after much practice and tips are given by an expert or mentor.
So we have to keep in mind that our children are also average human beings, just like others. Their body and muscles are not much stronger enough to deal with an impact. Instead of writing lengthy paragraphs and wasting your time. I’m just writing a few tips that help you to teach your child.
- Take start by practicing on carpet or grass. It resists the board from moving.
- Tell them how they have to stand on a board in a well-right position.
- Make sure they bend their knees then stand on them.
- By using heels and toes, ask them to move forward and backward.
- In starting, hold their hand and help them move by placing their legs and feet in the right direction.
- After a few practices, allow them to repeat it by themselves.
- Once they learn to walk a bit, ask them to take a step and place their other foot on the skateboard.
- I hope your child starts picking up and is a great skater of the future. “Good Luck.”
